Hey! I’m The Left-Handed Teacher and I know you can do it!
Teachers! I created my latest Donors Choose project during a 30 minute prep period and you can do it, too! I believe in Donors Choose, I believe in helping other classroom teachers, I believe in helping students get their hands on books, and I believe in you!
Have you been thinking about creating a project, but you’re overwhelmed by it all?
You can visit my page on Donors Choose to get some inspiration regarding how to word your project title, student information, and project summary. Donors Choose also does a fantastic job of guiding you through every step so you’re well-informed along the way!
I’m currently in the midst of my 3rd Donors Choose Project titled Fifth Grade Rising. My first project was a couple of years ago. I needed binders for my 60 students and a new classroom mailbox. I didn’t know what I was doing! I fumbled through the process of creating an account and a project on DonorsChoose.org and NEVER thought it would get funded. It seemed to good to be true! It didn’t make sense to me that someone I didn’t know would want to donate money to me or my class. I thought people would scoff at the idea.
Well, I was very wrong! In about a month’s time, my project was fully funded and I promptly received my supplies. I chalked it up to the fact that the project didn’t cost very much. I thought, if I tried for a more expensive project, I’d surely fail.
My second time around, Spring of 2018, I notice the process of creating a project had been streamlined and seemed much easier than I remembered. I dove into this one head first and put together an aggressive project costing nearly $1000 that would provide, not only much-needed books, but the shelves I needed to create a moveable classroom library.
I submitted my project and crossed my fingers. I waited, but not very long, because a loving friend and an anonymous donor fully funded my project. Surprisingly, the anonymous donor funded the majority of the project and in about a week, I had my second fully funded project! Wowza!
It’s a no brainer then that I’m back for my third time! This project is smaller than the last, but similar in that I’m asking for books to add to my growing classroom library. I switched grade levels this year and I want to add more 5th grade level appropriate texts!
My 3rd project has not been funded… YET! I have full confidence that the 3rd time is a charm and will be funded like the rest.
You can see my past projects and read my thank you posts to donors HERE.
I learned a valuable lesson during this process. Don’t be afraid.
Please don’t be afraid to jump in and go for it! Submit your first project and you’ll see how fun and easy it is! Donors Choose is constantly improving and streamlining the process, so if you’re reading this, GO FOR IT! Teachers, I created my last project on my 30 minute prep and you can too! I believe in you! Give it a try and please come back to let me know how you enjoyed your experience!
